What Is ACA Health Insurance?

ACA health insurance refers to individual and family coverage that meets the requirements of the Affordable Care Act. These plans are generally available through the federal or state Health Insurance Marketplace.

ACA plans may include:

•Preventive care

•Doctor and specialist visits

•Hospital and emergency services

•Prescription drug coverage

•Maternity and newborn care

•Mental health and substance-use services

•Laboratory services

•Pediatric care

Understanding ACA Plan Costs

ACA Marketplace plans may have several types of costs:

Monthly premium
The amount you pay each month to maintain your coverage.

Deductible
The amount you may need to pay for covered services before the plan begins paying its share.

Copayments and coinsurance
Your share of the cost when you receive certain medical services or prescriptions.

Out-of-pocket maximum
The most you generally pay during the plan year for covered in-network services before the plan pays 100% of covered benefits.

You May Qualify for Financial Assistance

Depending on your household income, family size, and other eligibility factors, you may qualify for:

•A premium tax credit that lowers your monthly premium

•Additional savings that reduce deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance

•Medicaid or another government health coverage program

Premium tax credits are available only through the Health Insurance Marketplace, and eligibility is determined when the application is completed.

When Can You Enroll?

The annual Open Enrollment Period for 2027 coverage through Get Covered New Jersey runs from November 1, 2026 through January 31, 2027.

You may also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period after certain life events, such as:

Losing other health coverage

•Getting married or divorced

•Having or adopting a child

•Moving to a new coverage area

•Certain changes in household income

•Other qualifying life events

Important: Special Enrollment Period rules and deadlines depend on the qualifying event. In many cases, you have up to 60 days after the event to enroll or change your plan, so it is best to review your options promptly.

How I Can Help You Choose an ACA Plan

Choosing an ACA Marketplace plan involves more than comparing monthly premiums. I can help you review:

•Plan premiums and deductibles

•Copayments and coinsurance

•Doctor and hospital networks

•Prescription drug coverage

•Estimated annual healthcare costs

•Eligibility for premium tax credits and other savings

My goal is to help you select coverage that fits your healthcare needs and budget.
